Pharmacy Training Program Is Underway…
4th Wall Relief volunteer Christie Nielsen is heading up our pharmacy training program for medics and community health workers working in remote clinics inside Karen State, Burma. She comes to us with may years of Pharmacy experience in remote areas of Alaska and Washington State. Her skills are essential when designing a program for clinics where it often takes 1-2 weeks on foot to deliver medicine and equipment to a population constantly displaced by a 6 decade long ethnic conflict.
The goal of this training course is to teach proper transport, storage, and dispensation of medicines to patients and to provide these health workers with a solid scientific background on the many medicines they work with on a daily basis. Upon completion of this course teams of trainers will go into the field to these clinics and conduct this training themselves.
New Pharmacist Training Program to Begin in May…
Our latest project with KDHW is our newly launched Pharmacy Training Program. This project came out of a request by the Karen Department of Health and Welfare to have pharmacists come over to train KDHW medics to set up, operate, and maintain their camp and village based pharmacies inside Karen State. We are pleased to have Christy Nielson from Chelan, Washington on board to build the program and will be in Thailand in May to conduct the first of hopefully many training courses. Her experience working in remote, rural communities in Alaska, and Washington State make her an amazing addition to our team.
